Options and Variants
Product options and variants allow you to create variations of your products to track inventory. The most common example is selling clothing. A shirt will likely need a size (Small, Medium, Large) and color(Red, Green, Blue) option. Creating options allow you to have a single product with multiple options to create product variants.
Tip
An example of a product variant is a small green shirt. You may sell a T-shirt product but have many variations of it. So instead of creating a product for each set of options, you should create a single product with multiple variants.
Product Options
You can add multiple options for each of your products. Options give you ways to customize your products into variants. Go to Settings > Products > Store Product Options and click on add a new option.
Choose the type of product and the option type. You can use the following product types
Text or Text Area: Allow the customer to enter in notes for you to review. Useful for custom products.
Date: Useful for custom products.
Select: If you choose the select type, you need to enter the option values. For example, if you create a size option for a hard good, you could add Small, Medium, and Large as the options. You should use this type if you need variants.
Product Variants
Note
The store product must be unpublished in order to add a variant.
A variant is one combination of your product options. A Small green shirt is an example of a variant. You must create variants to manage inventory. Go to Settings > Store Products and click on add variant on a product.
You should create your product options before creating a variant. If you add options after you create a variant, you may need to go back in and edit each variant.
On the variant page, you can add the name, SKU, image, and stock level. You don’t need to create a variant for every combination of options, e.g. You may have some products that only come in a certain size.
