Service Based Subscription Products

Service products can be set up as Subscription-Based, meaning you can have line items automatically recur based on duration periods that you define. The ability to set these duration periods is found within the ‘Subscription Information’ tab on the Service Product add/edit page and is only available after setting up a service product as subscription based.

To set up a subscription-based service product, go to Settings > Products > Service Products. You can either add a new Service Product or edit an existing one.

  • On the add/edit service page, you must fill out at least the required fields, including Name and Category. For more information about what each of these fields do, check out our ‘Set up a Service’ help center page.

  • Set the ‘Is this service subscription-based?’ field to Yes. This will change some of the fields that display.

    • The Price, Cost Basis, and Taxable Cost Basis fields will all be hidden since they are not applicable for this service type.

    • There will be a new ‘Subscription Recipient Type’ field that is required. You can choose from Single Contact or Multiple Contacts. When adding this item to an order, this determines how many contacts you can associate with the line item.

    • The Require Event Date setting will automatically be set to Yes and disabled.

    • The Pro-Rated Revenue Recognition setting will be automatically set to Yes and disabled.

  • Once you’ve completed the form and saved your changes, you’ll see a new ‘Subscription Information’ tab appear on the add/edit page.

    • Click on this to set your Duration Details for the product. The durations determine when the line items recur.

    • Each duration requires a name, period, and rate. You can choose from various time periods, including week intervals, months, and years.

    • Durations can be edited or disabled as needed and can also be fully deleted unless they have been used on a line item.

Note

Service tasks cannot be added to subscription-based service products.
